VINTAGE SYNTHS VOL. 3

This CD is part of a project we started in 1990 with the release of the book SYNTHESIZER VON GESTERN and the CD VINTAGE SYNTHS VOL.1. Again each of the compositions was realized with just one kind of synthesizer and again we tried to work out the most typical sounds for each of the instruments. With those instruments which offered the possibility to be controlled via MIDI - either because they were already equipped with MIDI or by means of an external MIDI interface - we made use of an Atari MEGA ST computer with C-LAB's NOTATOR Software. Where MIDI was not available all the tracks were either produced without the help of any external computer or - in order to get noises of non - midified instruments into the right groove - by means
of sampling. All the samples we used were only of the "one shot" kind - no looping or editing of any kind was applied. The sounds used were always the genuine ones taken directly from the original historical instruments. The different timbres and parts were recorded onto a 24 track
machine, mixed down to stereo and mastered onto DAT recorder. For sweetening on mixdown we made use of digital reverberation units, digital delays, multi-fx devices, exciters, noisegates, compressors, analog flangers and phasers and the superb psycho acoustic processor SPL VITALIZER.
The CD was mastered by Claudius Brüse in his WHITE OAK STUDIO/ Cologne with the help of DIGIDESIGN PROTOOLS. All tracks were denoised with DINR and several compositions were furthermore treated with QSOUND in order to give them an extremely wide stereo image. Our special thanks go to Oscar Sala, the 84-year-old Berlin pioneer of Electronic Music, whom we once more could persuade to participate in
our project. His two tracks featured here were first released in 1970 and - thanks to the courtesy of SELECTED SOUND MUSIKVERLAG GmbH - are now finally available on the CD RESONANZEN (ORIGINALTON WEST OW 028).
